Finally Moving
We finally got the boat in the water August 4th after much scrubbing and repair work. There is definitely more work to do than originally anticipated. Saturday Aug. 5th was spent at the Portuguese Festival where we cooked large hunks of meat on large skewers over an open fire. It was quite an experience. We returned to the boat to do our renaming ceremony. Kelly and Paul joined us later in the night on their way home from Martha's Vineyard. We chatted quite late into the night. It was great to have them aboard.
After more work and provisioning, we finally set sail for our first destination - Martha's Vineyard. We had to learn a little about tides and currents to make it through Wood's Hole. What an experience! Doug waited to let a small speed ferry by before we entered the channel only to find larger boats and many of them travelling through the cut from Vineyard Sound to Buzzard's Bay. We passed through Wood's Hole to see three ferries at one point. One boat had a helicopter on it! Once through the narrows, we put up our genoa and were doing 81/2 knots! We made it into Edgartown where we entered in Katama Bay. Tonight we are on a mooring.
