Finally Moving

We finally got the boat in the water August 4th after much scrubbing and repair work. There is definitely more work to do than originally anticipated. Saturday Aug. 5th was spent at the Portuguese Festival where we cooked large hunks of meat on large skewers over an open fire. It was quite an experience. We returned to the boat to do our renaming ceremony. Kelly and Paul joined us later in the night on their way home from Martha's Vineyard. We chatted quite late into the night. It was great to have them aboard.

After more work and provisioning, we finally set sail for our first destination - Martha's Vineyard. We had to learn a little about tides and currents to make it through Wood's Hole. What an experience! Doug waited to let a small speed ferry by before we entered the channel only to find larger boats and many of them travelling through the cut from Vineyard Sound to Buzzard's Bay. We passed through Wood's Hole to see three ferries at one point. One boat had a helicopter on it! Once through the narrows, we put up our genoa and were doing 81/2 knots! We made it into Edgartown where we entered in Katama Bay. Tonight we are on a mooring.

It's all in the name: Hasten Slowly. Takes you a while to get going, but when you do, you go over eight knots.

Is it too early to hope for pictures? ;)

Have fun, guys.

Hey all,

Still working on the pictures. You are dealing with a technically challenges group here. We have a few loaded on the computer but next step is trying to get them on the site. Acess to the net is only avilable at the library here & it's too nice to sit inside blogging. Anyway, heading for Nantucket tomorrow for a few days then probably back towards cape cod. I don't have Jeff & Mike's email's with me so can't send individual emails but happy birthday to both.

A good website for sharing your pictures is:

http://www.flickr.com

It's run by Yahoo! and you just need to sign up and then you can log in and upload the pictures from your computer and create albums to put them in and then you can share the web address in the same way you do your blog, or you can post links to the pictures in your blog.

You didn't throw the keys far enough away - we found the beer and the wine!!
The neighbourhood is making good use of your football field....ooops, I mean "backyard".
Kyle is missing Steve.
We're o.k. without you: I've gone back to dark rum (and converted Murray), we now eat on Friday nights, and on Saturday mornings we find we still have money in our pockets.
All the very best, good luck, and take care.

Hi All,
I was going to give an update with pictures but I've forgotten my password and can't get in to post other than with a comment. I'll keep tryin. In the meantime, I've contacted the site.

We're back in Mattapoisett. We have to repair a few more things before we get ready to head south. We wold like to go to Boston first but are waiting a few days to see what the storm in Florida is going to do. There are a few very well protected anchorages around here as well as a Hurricane breakwater and gate at New Bedford, which is not very far away. We've met some wonderful people. The people at the Mattapoisett Boatyard are great. They have been very helpful as we ready the boat. I'll try to remember my password so that I can post some photos.
